The Walk of Fame officially introduced before BAUHAUS-Galan 2022

The first two stones were placed two years earlier but on Thursday afternoon, 30 June 2022, the Walk of Fame was officially opened in front of the famous Stockholm Olympic Stadium by the City of Stockholm.Ahead of the start of the BAUHAS-Galan 2022, the seven stones were ceremonially put into the ground.

The idea came from Gunilla Lydén and was finally realised today, as the famous guests took part in the ceremony in front of the main Clock Tower, and were warmly welcomed by Karin Ernlund, the Vice Mayor of Sports at the City of Stockholm.

The Chairman of SCIF, Rajne Soderberg welcomed guests and informed about the project which should continue with other more than 40 pieces of stones in the future.

The first stone goes to the Rolling Stones for the record number of visitors at the stadium on 3 June 1995 with 35,200 people.

From the athletics world, the next stone belongs to Gunder Hagg, the 1500m world record holder from 1942 (3:45.8).

The next stone belongs to the record 4 x 1 mile relay in 1941 (17:02.8).

Henry Kalarne, the 3000m record holder was the next rewarded with the stone for 8:09.0 time in 1940.

Nora-Anna Larsson broke the world record in 1945 at the 800m with 2:13.8 and Anders Garderud got the stone for the world record at 3000m Steeplechase 8:09.8 in 1975.

The last but not least who attended the celebration was the high jump star Patrick Sjoberg for his 2.42 jump in 1987.

“Seeing this ceremony, it strikes me feeling I am much older now. But it is a nice thing as it is a stadium with lots of the history and I am a part of the history so it feels good,” said Sjoberg.

“The 2.42 jump is still pretty high, it is still up there. It is already too many years since I stopped competing so I am just in the history books. If I turn on the TV and there is high jump, I am still watching it. But I do not plan to watch too much. I have experienced too much when I was competing,” revealed the high jump Swedish legend.

The ceremony was a nice opening to the evening BAUHAUS-Galan bringing the main home stars headed with Armand Duplantis in the pole vault.
