Swedish star, Mondo Duplantis narrowly failed on three attempts at a 6.25m world record but the Olympic and double world champion still managed to please his home crowd with a 6.00m pole vault victory. <\/p>\n
The 24-year-old world record holder – who leapt 6.24m at the inaugural Diamond League in Xiamen in April – held off a spirited challenge from the USA\u2019s Sam Kendricks, who jumped 5.90m for the runner-up spot. <\/p>\n
Two-time world outdoor champion Kendricks is relishing a return to form of late, following second-place finishes in Xiamen and Suzhou recently for the 2009 Stockholm winner. <\/p>\n
On the track meanwhile, world 200m champion, Sherika Jackson sped to a 22.69 season\u2019s best to claim the half-lap honours.<\/p>\n
The 29-year-old Jamaican suffered her first defeat in two years in Oslo earlier in the week so the Olympic 100m bronze medalist was happy to add to her 2021 Stockholm victory. <\/p>\n
Jackson said afterwards: \u201cSometimes you have to have a mishap to sort out where you are. Oslo was a bit hurtful but it was also a lesson for me and today I ran a seasons best and that was good. I have always had confidence as I feel in good shape but this is good for me now. I was not ever going to beat myself up as I know I am training well and things will come together and this has shown today. <\/p>\n
\u201cAfter such a good season last year, you would think it would be easy to be motivated but, for me, I think I lost who I was as a person and I was going to training and just going through the motions. I think therefore Oslo was a blessing for me. It gave me that realization that I do still want to be winning. Sometimes I struggle a bit mentally and at Oslo I lost a bit of who I am but now I am back and this was important for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
In second place, Sweden\u2019s Julia Henriksson delighted the crowd with a fine 22.89 personal best to improve her 23.12 previous best time set in May. <\/p>\n
