Huge Daniel St\u00e5hl ("Steel" in Swedish) draws gigantic interest as a native of Stockholm who loves to joke in front of cameras. Daniel made a major breakthrough at the Swedish Championships in Sollentuna last year when he threw 68.72 m, further than anyone else in the world in 2016.<\/p>\n
At the weekend, it happened again. Daniel threw over 68 at two separate competitions in California. An additional four throws between 66 and 67 metres proved that it wasn\u2019t a fluke. To put this in perspective, his Swedish predecessor, Ricky Bruch, broke the world record in the Stockholm Olympic Stadium in 1972 with a throw of 68.40 m. Only when he made his comeback in 1984 did he throw further than that. <\/p>\n
Ready to attack the magic 70 metres<\/b>
"It is the next longest distance I have thrown. It feels reasonably good", were Daniel\u2019s unassuming comments.
Coach, V\u00e9steinn Hafsteinsson, believes that there is potential for more.\u2028
"Daniel is ready for 70 metres".
His opposition at BAUHAUS-galan will be of the highest class. The German thrower, Robert Harting, has dominated the discus in recent years with six titles at the Olympics, World and European Championships. Robert has earned the nickname, The Hulk, after his celebration ritual of ripping open his competition vest.<\/p>\n
However last year, it was younger brother, Christoph, who took over and won Olympic gold. Axel H\u00e4rstedt, the Swede who placed 10th in the same final, will also appear at Stockholm Olympic Stadium.<\/p>\n
