And on June 15, 20-year-old Emmanuel Wanyonyi – the world’s top 800m runner – will come to BAUHAUS-galan at the Stockholm Olympic Stadium for the first time. There he will face Andreas
Kramer, who is recharging after his best season of his career in 2024. “It’s the competition I look forward to the most,” says Kramer.

Emmanuel Wanyonyi is one of the world’s hottest names in middle-distance running. He is the reigning Olympic champion and came in joint second all-time with Denmark’s Wilson Kipketer last year with 1:41.11. Only compatriot and legend David Rudisha has run faster.

At BAUHAUS-galan on June 15, he will face two of the Olympic finalists from Paris – Djamel
Sedjati and Gabriel Tual. Sedjati is enjoying life in Stockholm. He has won the last two galas in Stockholm and is also second in the world rankings behind Wanyonyi.

The 28-year-old Stadium record of 1:41.73, held by the aforementioned Kipketer and which was close to a world record when it started, is definitely in danger.

Also in the starting list is Andreas Kramer, who is taking a new step towards the outdoor season after his best season ever in 2024. 1:43.13 in Monaco this summer meant a Swedish record and a 13th place in the world. He also ran the semi-final in the Paris Olympics.

– It means a lot to have such a big competition on home soil. It’s the competition you look forward to the most. It’s always challenging with such good competition, which is exactly what you want. BAUHAUS-galan is important for all of athletics Sweden, and it’s an opportunity for the audience to see world-class athletics, says Kramer, who has been unlucky with injuries and illnesses during the winter – but has had a spring with good basic training.

Kramer has been living in Stockholm for almost three years and changed clubs to the newly started Djurgården Friidrott last winter together with coach Per Skoog.

– It’s an exciting new chapter, with good people around. It’s a clear, serious and professional elite effort. But it’s fun to also have the exercise part DIF running where I’m involved and contributing. DIF means a financially more secure elite effort for me, he says.

The Swede will have a tough match against the best opposition, and he has not yet defeated either Wanyonyi or Sedjati yet.

He is the reigning Olympic champion and is compared to David Rudisha.
