With a World Championships semifinal and a Swedish national title, 2025 became Oskar Edlund\u2019s best season of his career so far. Now the Swedish crowd will get to see him take on the world elite in the 400m hurdles at BAUHAUS-galan on June 7, when he faces the accomplished Alison dos Santos, Kyron McMaster and Antti Sainio. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n

After four years in the USA, Edlund moved back home last summer, followed by the best championship season of his career. The 23-year-old claimed his first national title in the 400m hurdles after several years of dominance by Carl Bengtstr\u00f6m \u2013 and then capped the season with a semifinal spot at the World Championships after setting a personal best of 48.52 in the heats. <\/p>\n\n

\u201c2025 was my best year so far, but I hope the biggest leap will come this year. I feel that I can really compete at the European Championships, and I\u2019m not there just to see and learn. I\u2019m really excited to see how far it can take me,\u201d says Edlund.<\/p>\n\n

As early as June 7, Edlund will get the chance to showcase himself against absolute top-level competition in the 400m hurdles at BAUHAUS-galan, which this year is held outside the Diamond League programme as an extra event.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cI love competing at Stockholm Olympic Stadium. I\u2019ve competed there at the Finnkampen and at a previous BAUHAUS-galan. It\u2019s a bit of a favourite arena, so it feels like home. It feels historic to enter the stadium with such a grand entrance, and then the closeness to the crowd, who can almost touch you in lane eight. It becomes like a cauldron. So it will be a highlight of the year,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n

The biggest challenge for the Swede will be Brazil\u2019s Alison dos Santos, one of the event\u2019s biggest stars. He is a world champion, a two-time Olympic bronze medallist and holds a personal best of 46.29 \u2013 one of the fastest times ever in the 400m hurdles. <\/p>\n\n

He will also be joined by Kyron McMaster from the British Virgin Islands, a former World Championships silver medallist, double Commonwealth Games champion and holder of a personal best of 47.08.<\/p>\n\n

Finland\u2019s Antti Sainio will also compete in Stockholm. He has medals from both the European U20 Championships and the World U20 Championships, and set a Finnish record of 48.61 in 2025. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
