American sprint stars Melissa Jefferson-Wooden and Kenny Bednarek lived up to the hype with classy victories at the BAUHAUS-galan on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In her first 100-meter race of 2026, world champion Jefferson-Wooden showed that she will once again be the woman to beat on the sprint stages. She ran a brilliant 10.84 seconds (+0.8 m\/s) to take a clear victory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The American exploded from the blocks and quickly left a quality field battling for second place. Great Britain\u2019s world 200m silver medallist Amy Hunt emerged from the pack to finish second in 10.97, recording the first sub-11-second performance of her career. Luxembourg\u2019s Patrizia van der Weken was third in 11.05. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m really happy with a sub-11 and with how I\u2019m feeling so soon after the Rome Diamond League the other day. It\u2019s great to run fast so soon after performing well there, so I\u2019m very pleased indeed,\u201d said Jefferson-Wooden. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis was my first 100m in nine months and the fastest season-opener of my career, so it\u2019s very exciting for me. This year is all about having fun, being a good competitor and enjoying the rewards of what I achieved last year. I\u2019d like to run a PB this summer, but I\u2019m not focusing on it \u2013 the sky\u2019s the limit, though.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bednarek continues his winning streak<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In the men\u2019s 200m, Olympic and world silver medallist Bednarek followed up his victory in Rabat with a second successive Diamond League win, clocking another sub-20-second performance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n He was in control from the start and maintained a comfortable advantage over the chasing pack, crossing the line in 19.87. South Africa\u2019s Sinesipho Dambile was second in 20.10, while the USA\u2019s Courtney Lindsey finished third in 20.24. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI came for the win and got the win, so I\u2019m happy with that, but there are definitely parts of the race I can work on,\u201d said Bednarek afterwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\u2019ve got plenty to work on as I head back to the US for a month before more Diamond League races and the Ultimate Champs.
