Swedish record holder in the 400m hurdles, Oskar Edlund, has qualified for the World Athletics <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ultimate Championships in Budapest. The 23-year-old will therefore have the chance to round off his <\/p>\n\n\n\n
breakthrough season against some of the world\u2019s best hurdlers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Oskar Edlund has established himself among the world elite in the 400m hurdles during 2026. At the European Championships in Birmingham in August, he set a new Swedish record of 47.81 and advanced all the way to the European final. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now, another major international challenge awaits. Edlund has qualified for the 400m hurdles at the World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ultimate Championships is World Athletics\u2019 new championship event, featuring significantly smaller fields than a traditional World Championships and bringing together some of the world\u2019s <\/p>\n\n\n\n
highest-ranked athletes. Only 16 places are available in the men\u2019s 400m hurdles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
For Edlund, the competition will also mark the conclusion of a season in which he has taken major steps on the <\/p>\n\n\n\n
international stage. In addition to setting the Swedish record, he has competed on the Diamond League circuit during the year. Just over a week ago, he delivered another strong international performance, finishing an impressive fifth at the Diamond League meeting in Silesia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
His strong performances have also resulted in a significant rise in the world rankings. Edlund has now <\/p>\n\n\n\n
climbed to 13th in the world in the 400m hurdles \u2013 further confirmation of his emergence among the global elite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earning a place at the Ultimate Championships is yet another sign of the impressive <\/p>\n\n\n\n
progress he has made this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two races in two days<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The men\u2019s 400m hurdles will begin with two semi-finals on Saturday, 12 September, followed by the final on Sunday, 13 September. For those who advance, it will be a demanding challenge with two world-class races within the space of 24 hours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Edlund also heads into the championships in strong form following an impressive performance at last weekend\u2019s Finnkampen.
