The runner from Tureberg, Andreas Almgren, will come to Stockholm Stadium on June the 2nd to run 3,000 meters against the world elite at BAUHAUS-galan.
Andreas Almgren struck with a superb 10,000 meters in the USA last Saturday evening when he set a Swedish record with 26.52.87. He has now decided to run the Diamond League event 3,000 meters at the BAUHAUS gala at the Stadium on June the 2nd.
- I'm really looking forward to the 3,000 meters. Running in front of a packed Stockholm Stadium is an athlete's dream! says record holder Almgren.
A Diamond League organizer can choose for themselves whether they want to host 3,000 meters or 5,000 meters at their event. Something that BAUHAUS-galan has used to suit Andreas Almgren as well as possible.
- We have chosen a shorter distance to suit Andrea's European Championship upload in Rome, which starts four days after BAUHAUS-galan. It is a really good opportunity for him to improve his Swedish record at the distance. He can also pick up important ranking points. His personal record is, a bit strangely, better indoors than outdoors. He probably wants to change that, says Jan Kowalski, Meeting Director at BAUHAUS galan.
Andreas Almgren repeated the results at the Diamond League last year. He broke the 5,000 meter race in Florence. He then followed up with a magnificent Swedish record in the 1,500 meters at the Bislett Games in Oslo with 3.32.00. He then ran at BAUHAUS-galan at exactly 3,000 meters, where he was beaten by Swedish Emil Danielsson. Emil, who is incidentally the son of Jonny Danielsson, whose 10,000-meter record that Andreas Almgren broke last Saturday.
Andrea's Swedish record for 3,000 meters indoors is 7.34.31 and outdoors 7.37.05. He now has 6 (!) official Swedish records outdoors (1,500, 3,000, 5,000, 10,000, 10 km road, half marathon).
