A trio of discus-throwing stars assembled to speak to the world’s media ahead of Sunday's Stockholm BAUHAUS-galan - the seventh stage of the Wanda Diamond League season - with home hope, Daniel Ståhl the main attraction.
The 30-year-old Swede and Olympic champion was victorious in the 2019, 2020 and 2021 event and Ståhl is looking to clinch a fourth win in Stockholm’s Olympic stadium tomorrow:
“I’m really excited to throw in my hometown against a strong field so it’s going to be a crazy competition,” the 2019 world champion explained.
“I’ve recently changed my coach and I’m enjoying the sport more now, so I hope to be able to continue for many more years and I hope to keep throwing far for as long as possible.”
World number one, Kristjan Čeh will aim to add to his victory in Doha in May and the 24-year-old Slovenian is in fine form - having thrown an impressive 71.86m national record last month.
The winner in Stockholm twelve months ago before his world championship win in Eugene, Čeh revealed:
“It’s windy today and the wind is always welcome - I think it will be good conditions tomorrow and the field is very good, we have three men over 71m so it will take a lot to win for sure but I’m confident.”
Meanwhile, their bemedalled female counterpart, Sandra Perković - the 2012 and 2016 Olympic discus champion - joined the duo and like Ståhl, the 33-year-old Croatian spoke of her goal to achieve great longevity in the sport:
“I do hope to have another ten more years in this sport - every day in training is enjoyable and it’s a great honour to compete here.
“There’s nothing more beautiful in life than to do the job you love the most,” Perković said.
A two-time world champion and six-time European champion, she finished runner-up in Paris last month and placed third in Oslo a fortnight ago.
