- We are happy that discus throw now is back in Diamond League and we have from a swedish perspective a very good set of disciplines for the competition the 4th of July. It's set up for pole vault fever at the Stadion, sais Jan Kowalski, meeting director at BAUHAUS-galan.
Due to the decision from Wanda Diamond League to include discus throw, triple jump, 200m and 3 000mH, the assistant meeting director, Johan Engberg, comments:
- We can never be sure of which disciplines will be the most popular in five years because of how the performances och the profiles varies over time between the disciplines. Who could have guessed seven years ago that 400m hurdles, pole vault and discus throw would be the most popular disciplines in the Wanda Diamond League series?
In the eightees, the crowd at the Stadion could watch the man who took the track and field experience to a new level, Willie Banks, the great entertainer and double Olympic-gold medalist, who established the clapping at the big events. He was triplejumper in a disciplin that has been outside of the Wanda Diamond League series recently:
- Athletics is a global sport where some countries has a certain tradition linked to certain disciplines but this can also vary over time. You can't predict which discipline will be the most popular in ten years of time. That's also the charm with our sport, and symbolizes one of our great worths, the diversity, sais Jan Kowalski.
The presented program for the Wanda Diamond League season 2021 shows how equal athletics are. Men and women are competing on the same arena with equal prize money. This years program has equal many disciplines for men and women, equal number of disciplines at every Wanda Diamond League event, also in Stockholm.
