The talented Swedish pole vaulter, Armand ”Mondo” Duplantis will compete in the Diamond League meeting at Stockholm Olympic Stadium after a strong indoor season. In February he set a new world junior record when he cleared 5.88 metres. His outdoor record is 5.92 metres and of course he will be aiming to improve that in front of a home crowd.
– Even if the jumping conditions can be unpredictable outdoors, I hope that I can jump well and my ambition is a new world junior record, stated Mondo.
29-year-old stadium record within reach
In which case Rodion Gataullin’s stadium record from 1989 is within reach of the Swede. The 29-year-old record is 5.95 metres. It will be exciting to see if Mondo can write himself into the history books at the classic Olympic Stadium.
BAUHAUS-galan will be Duplantis’ debut at a Diamond League event on home turf and he is looking forward to competing in Stockholm on 10 June.
– It feels so great to have the opportunity to compete at the Olympic Stadium and I hope to get some real support from the stands at what will be my first of many appearances at BAUHAUS-galan, concluded Mondo.
