Easy hurdles win for Amusan
World champion, Tobi Amusan of Nigeria clocked 12.52 to take the women’s 100m hurdles spoils.
The 26-year-old - who finished second in Lausanne only on Friday - finished well clear of Ireland’s Sarah Lavin - the European championship fifth placer - who registered a 12.73 personal best, after claiming eighth position in Doha back in May.
“I am excited to be out here competing and it is great to get the win on the back of Lausanne,” explained Amusan.
“The rain stopped but it was still very cold. I am not very happy with where I am but I trust in the process even when it is not necessarily processing right. I trust in my coach and God and myself.”
High jump shock with Kerr on top
New Zealand’s world indoor bronze medalist, Hamish Kerr was a surprise winner of the high jump with a 2.24m clearance.
Fourth in Florence, the 26-year-old Commonwealth champion was followed by Belgium’s Thomas Carmoy - the European indoor bronze medalist - who registered a best of 2.20m.
Italy’s Olympic champion, Gianmarco Tamberi could only reach a best of 2.12m with three fouls at the 2.16m mark.
Kerr revealed afterwards:
“They were tough conditions but I am in really good form at the moment and I was hoping to jump really high today. I did not do that but I managed to jump higher than anyone else, so I will definitely take the win.
“The rain does not help but you have to fix it especially mentally because it is not so cold. At the end, my legs were feeling a little bit too cold to continue. I think I am in PB shape - I was ready to try for the 2.33m.
“I am very grateful to compete here and that I am healthy and that my family at home loves me and these are the things I really hold onto. I have a good life and some nice stuff so that is what I think of."
