– I’m really looking forward to BAUHAUS-galan! I’ve had some of my best races there and there’s always such a great atmosphere with home support.
The Gothenburg athlete had a brilliant first half of the season last year. She finished fourth in her season’s debut in Oslo, in a time only three hundredths of a second off the Swedish record, and followed that with the second place at BAUHAUS-galan three days later. In Lausanne, at the beginning of July, she broke the Swedish 800m record by almost half a second with 1:58.77 and a few days later ran 2:35.15.to also break the 1000m record.
”Never had such good basic fitness”
However, Lovisa then suffered a stress fracture in her foot and was forced to miss the World Championships. Many hours of ’alternative’ training have followed.
– My foot was actually OK in October according to a second MRI but we chose to increase the training slowly to avoid a re-occurrence. My foot is fine now and I have never had such good basic fitness, explained Lovisa.
– I still haven’t run in spikes but I’m hoping it will go well. I’ll try them out soon.
European Championships, an ambitious goal
The main focus of the summer is the European Championships in Berlin, where Lovisa has a bronze to defend from Amsterdam 2016. The qualifying time is 2:02.50, which would not normally be a problem to achieve.
– Some days I want to build up ambitious goals but at the moment it feels better to just aim to get going with races before I really focus on the European Champs, said Lovisa who had earlier expressed a wish to defend her medal.
