Ivana Španović and Renaud Lavillenie are two familiar names to the Stockholm audience. Now both are ready to start at BAUHAUS-galan on Sunday. Reigning world champion Španović has three previous victories in Stockholm, and Diamond League king Lavillenie one.
Španović and Lavillenie have achieved great success on the Diamond Leauge stage in modern times.
The 2023 world champion has six Diamond League final victories and has won the Diamond League competition in Stockholm three times – the last time was in 2021.
Now, however, she will face the toughest possible opposition with Malaika Mihambo, Larissa Iapichino and Tara Davis-Woodhall on the starting list – in what will be Španović’s first cross-country competition of the season.
Lavillenie, who is something of a Diamond League king, has an incredible record with no less than seven Diamond League total titles. No other athlete has ever won more.
The 2012 Olympic gold medalist will face Armand Duplantis, who broke Lavillenie’s world record in 2020 and has been steadily pushing the record highs to new heights since then, on June 15. Sam Kendricks and Emmanouil Karalis are also already set for the event.
