The World’s Best Shot Putter Set for BAUHAUS-galan

The women’s shot put promises something truly special at BAUHAUS-galan. Jessica Schilder, who delivered the longest throw in the world in 14 years last weekend, is confirmed for the meet. Olympic champion Yemisi Ogunleye and two-time world champion Chase Jackson are also set to compete. Fanny Roos represents Swedish hopes.

BAUHAUS-galan will feature one of the strongest shot put competitions in the world in 2026. The Netherlands’ Jessica Schilder threw 21.09 meters at the Diamond League in China last weekend—a new Diamond League record and the longest throw globally in 14 years. That makes her the hottest shot putter in the world right now, ranked number one globally.

She will face the toughest possible competition from American Chase Jackson, who has two World Championship golds and one silver, as well as Germany’s Yemisi Ogunleye, who surprisingly claimed Olympic gold in Paris 2024. Jackson also won gold at the World Indoor Championships as recently as this winter.

We should not forget Sarah Mitton, who will be there to push for victory. Mitton holds the Canadian national record at 20.68 meters and consistently throws beyond 20 meters. She won World Championship silver in 2023.

For Sweden, the experienced Fanny Roos is confirmed for the start. Roos finished fourth at the Diamond League opener last weekend with a best throw of 19.26 meters. Over the past year, she has established herself above 19 meters and hopes to approach the 20-meter mark this season.

Other strong names include Jaida Ross, fourth at the 2024 Olympics, Maggie Ewen, winner of the 2021 Diamond League Final, and Danniel Thomas-Dodd, who has two World Championship silvers.
