Ayla Hallberg Hossain makes Diamond League debut – competing for $20,000

After a breakthrough year, Swedish long jumper Ayla Hallberg will now have her biggest international assignment yet. When the Diamond League is held at the Stockholm Stadium on Sunday, the young Swede will have the chance to compete with some of the world’s best long jumpers – in a competition where the winner is rewarded with 20,000 US dollars.

– It feels very exciting. I’m going in with an open mind and will do my best to see how far it goes. It’s very competitive and it’s cool. I hope it leads to something good,” says Ayla.

Ayla Hallberg made a real breakthrough when she surprisingly took home the Swedish Championship gold in long jump. Since then, her development has continued at a rapid pace. During the indoor season, she once again showed her capacity by winning the long jump at the Bauhaus Gala Indoor, which has now opened the door to athletics’ most prestigious competition series.

The Diamond League brings together the world’s best athletes and is considered the sport’s premier competition series outside the global championships. For Hallberg, the competition is an important step in her career and an opportunity to gain valuable experience at the highest level. It also means she can collect good points to climb the world rankings, as diamond league competitions give higher ranking points for the same result. This is important for the upcoming World Championships and Olympics, where the majority of athletes are selected based on ranking points.

Despite her young age, Ayla has already shown that she can perform when it matters most. Now the next big challenge awaits as she takes to the track alongside international championship medalists and world stars.

For the audience at Stockholm Stadium, it will also be an opportunity to follow one of Swedish athletics’ most exciting future names in her debut on the Diamond League stage.
