Following his success at the European Championships, Oskar Edlund is set for his next major international challenge. The fourth-place finisher at the European Championships, who broke the Swedish record in the 400m hurdles in the semi-final, is confirmed for Sunday’s Diamond League meeting in Silesia. There, he will have the opportunity to test himself against the very best in the world – with his sights set on the season’s major goal, the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest.
Oskar Edlund continues his impressive season. On Sunday, 23 August, he will line up in the 400m hurdles at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Silesia, Poland.
The news comes after Edlund’s major breakthrough at senior level at the European Championships in Birmingham. He progressed all the way to the final, where he finished fourth. In the semi-final, he made Swedish athletics history by breaking the national record in the 400m hurdles.
“Getting the opportunity to compete in the Diamond League means a lot. These are exactly the kind of races I want to be in, competing against the very best in the world. It’s an opportunity both to test my level and to show that I can compete on this stage,” says Oskar Edlund.
Facing the very best in the world
In Silesia, Edlund will face world-class opposition. The field includes world record holder Karsten Warholm and Brazil’s Alison dos Santos, who won the 400m hurdles at BAUHAUS-galan earlier this year.
For Edlund, the race provides a valuable opportunity to compete against some of the world’s best – and represents another step onto the international elite stage.

Budapest is the main goal
At the same time, one clear objective remains for the season: qualifying for the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, taking place from 11–13 September.
The championship brings together the world’s leading athletes, with only 16 places available in the men’s 400m hurdles.
Competition for a place in Budapest is therefore extremely tough.
“The Ultimate Championship is the big goal that remains this season. There are only 16 places in the 400m hurdles, so every opportunity to run fast and compete against this level of opposition is important. Getting the chance to do that at the Diamond League in Silesia is a fantastic opportunity,” says Edlund.
Edlund competed at BAUHAUS-galan at Stockholm Olympic Stadium earlier this summer. Since then, he has taken further major steps forward. Following his fourth-place finish at the European Championships and his Swedish record, he now has another opportunity to show that he belongs among the world’s best.
