But the same could be said about Russians Olga Kucherenko and Lyudmila Kolchanova and American Brittney Reese.
Kucherenko is the world leader with 7.13 and won bronze in Barcelona, Kolchanova is third with 7.01 and was fifth. Reese has a personal best of 7.10 and was the world champion last year and claimed the indoor world title in Doha this year.
Carolina Klüft was in good spirits after the finals at the European Championships in spite of eleventh place with 6.33. “Carro” did not jump as well as in the qualifications, but she was very pleased with the way her body responded to competitions back to back.
– My next competition will be DN Galan, August 6. It is always nice to compete at DN Galan and it feels special to jump on home turf, especially at Stockholm Olympic Stadium.
Naide Gome started the season injured, but proved with 6.92 in Barcelona that she peaked just in time for The European Championships and DN Galan.
– I am expecting a seven meter jump and would be thrilled if I could do it at DN Galan. In 2008 I jumped 7.04 and missed the Stadium record by one centimeter. Now I want to get the record because the diamonds that are awarded for Stadium records are so beautiful.
Gomes believes that “Carro” has a bright future as a long jumper.
– Carolina is a fantastic athlete. She has made it back after a serious injury and that is impressive. I would not be surprised if she jumps seven meters next year.
