Big Shot makes a comeback during Stockholm BAUHAUS Athletics week

The Stockholm meeting organisers were one of the first to take athletics out of the stadium when they arranged a successful shot put competition in Kungsträdgården city square and many international athletics organisers have since followed Stockholm’s lead and held the event in popular city centre locations. After a short break the Big Shot will make a comeback to Kungsträdgården on Wednesday 29 July, and will be one more event to feature during the week of the Stockholm BAUHAUS Athletics Diamond League meeting.

The Stockholm public will also be happy to welcome back a familiar star in New Zealand’s Valerie Adams. She has won everything possible in international shot putting including dominating her event in the Swedish capital for many years. This year, in which the women’s shot is an IAAF Diamond League event, Valerie will be challenged by world leader, Christina Schwanitz, from Germany and American star, Michelle Carter.

The Big Shot will be organized in partnership with BAUHAUS and the City of Stockholm.  In addition to the Diamond League women’s event, there will be a national youth and a senior men’s competition and ’have-a-go’ sessions for children, young people and adults.

Jan Kowalski, Chairman of Stadionklubbarna, which organises the Stockholm Diamond League is grateful to the event’s title sponsor BAUHAUS for enabling an expansion of the event.
It is great that we are able to bring back the Big Shot. For the first time in Stadionklubbarna’s history we have a week in Stockholm full of athletics activities, starting in Kungsträdgården on Monday 27 July with two days of children’s athletics, followed by Big Shot and then moving to the Olympic Stadium for the Diamond League meeting, a 1000m fun run and finishing with a weekend of international youth competition.
