Sanya Richards-Ross ran 49.28 this summer and has won nine of her last ten races including the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul. She won gold at the World Championships in Berlin 2009 and on Sunday night she won the Olympic gold medal in London.
DN Galan is a popular event for a lot of world class athletes, also for Richards-Ross.
– I love the overall experience at the DN Galan. The meet is very well organized, the fans are energetic, and there is always great competition.
But it won’t be easy to either win the race or the diamond. The stadium record is 49.70 (Allison Felix, DN Galan 2007) and Richards-Ross is up against Botswana’s Amantle Montsho who won gold at the most recent World Championships in Daegu last year. Her personal best is 49.54 from the African Championships in June earlier this year.
The local crowd in Stockholm will of course be backing their local hero and Swedish record-holder Moa Hjelmer. Whatever happens, it’s going to be a key race to watch at the Stockholm meet.
