DN Galan 2015 event schedule

DN Galan IAAF Diamond League meeting will take place on Thursday 30 July and the event schedule for the complete Diamond League series has just been announced. Amongst other events DN Galan will be staging a men’s long jump for top Swede, Michel Tornéus, and a women’s 3000m or 5000m which can include European 5000m Champion, Meraf Bahta.

In 2015 DN Galan will be the last Diamond League meeting before the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, which will mean that a host of stars, in peak form for the year’s biggest event, will compete in Stockholm as their final preparation. World Indoor long jump bronze medallist, Michel Tornéus, was third at DN Galan 2014 with a jump of 8.03m and he has every expectation to jump even further when the event returns to the programme in July next year.

A women’s distance event will also feature in the form of 3000m or 5000m. The final decision has yet to be made. Meraf Bahta from the Hälle IF club on Sweden’s west coat is the reigning European Champion and in 2014 became the first Swede under 15 minutes for 5000m when she set a new Swedish record of 14:59.49. Whichever distance is decided there’s a good chance for another Swedish record.

Men’s high jump – a quality event
The men’s high jump became a constant highlight of the 2014 Diamond League with a series of results over 2.40m by a range of top jumpers. The highest was Qatar’s Mutaz Essa Barshim who cleared 2.43 at the Diamond League Final in Brussels and became the second highest of all time behind World Record holder, Javier Sotomayor (2.45m).
Maybe Barshim, or 2.42m Ukrainian, Bohdan Bondarenko, can threaten Patrik Sjöberg’s stadium record which will have lasted 28 years next year.
