Today’s announcement of DN Galan’s continued participation in the IAAF Diamond League is significant not only for the event itself but also for athletics and the city of Stockholm.
– It’s great that the organisers, Stadionklubbarna, and DN Galan continue to be seen as one of the world’s best hosts of track and field. The Diamond League is a unique opportunity for our athletics fans and young people to see the top stars and it is important that our leading athletes can compete against the world’s elite in their home stadium, explained Stadionklubbarna’s Chairman, Jan Kowalski.
– The confirmation of DN Galan’s IAAF Diamond League status means that this summer a new track can be installed in Stockholm’s Olympic Stadium. We are grateful for the cooperation with politicians and officials within the City of Stockholm. Our new contract with the Diamond League means a lot for the international image of Stockholm and we are keen to contribute to the marketing of the world’s most beautiful capital city, Stadionklubbarnas Director, Anders Tallgren emphasised.
"I love to compete at DN Galan!"
For many Swedish and international competitors DN Galan has been a highlight of the global athletics year. Long jump star, Michel Tornéus, who represents one of the organising clubs, Hammarby, welcomes the decision that his favourite event will remain within the Diamond League.
– I love to compete at DN Galan and in Stockholms Stadion in front of such an enthusiastic crowd. It is so exciting and inspiring to know I can now look forward to more Diamond League years in Stockholm.
This year’s DN Galan will take place on 21 August in the world’s finest athletics arena, Stockholm Olympic Stadium.
