Last winter, he showed that he can compete with the world elite. Now, the Hälle runner Samuel Pihlström will once again compete against strong international competition in the 1500 meters at BAUHAUS-galan on June 15. He will face, among others, the reigning African champion Brian Komen.
24-year-old Samuel Pihlström sailed up in 2024 as the second fastest 1500m runner of all time in Sweden after the superb Andreas Almgren – thanks to a strong performance in the Paris Olympics.
Last winter, he also showed that he can compete for medals in international championships when he finished fifth and sixth at the Indoor World Championships and Indoor European Championships.
This summer, Pihlström is aiming for the World Championships in Tokyo, and will have a really good value gauge at the Stockholm Stadium and BAUHAUS-galan on June 15.
“It will be really fun to run 1500 meters at the Stadium. I have been able to train well during the winter and feel in good shape. I hope to make up for the victory and offer the audience a good race”, says Pihlström.
Among the opponents is Brian Komen, who won the African Championships in 2024. Komen is ranked tenth in the world and beat Pihlström in the Olympic trials last year. On the other hand, Pihlström beat Komen earlier that year indoors in the Czech Republic.
Now it remains to be seen whether Pihlström can finish higher than last year’s fifth place at BAUHAUS-galan – and whether he can get closer to Almgren’s Swedish record of 3:32.00.
