BAUHAUS-galan – one of the best athletics meetings in the world
The meet is held at the historical Stockholm Olympic Stadium and is a leading track and field meeting and one of the largest annual sporting events in Sweden. 83 world records have been set here since 1912 – far more than at any other arena in the world.
BAUHAUS-galan 2019 coincided with the 10th anniversary of the IAAF Diamond League and it was celebrated with a 10 000m race where Kenyan, Rhonex Kipruto, improved the stadium record to 26:50.16. That was one of three world leading results – the others came at the women's 200m (Dina Asher-Smith 22.18) and 5000m (Agnes Tirop 14:50.82).
For the first time Sweden claimed two Diamond League victories at Stockholm's BAUHAUS-galan. Daniel Ståhl won discus with 69.57m – only a decimeter short of the stadium record – and Thobias Montler shocked everyone by beating a world class field with a new personal best of 8.22m (second all-time in Sweden). There was also a Swedish victory in men's shot put by Wictor Petersson (20.11) who beat Olympic silver medallist Joe Kovacs. The Big Shot event took place at a specially built shot put arena at the courtyard of the Royal College of Music close to the Olympic stadium.
