Kamga Faces Double Olympic Champion

Swedish fans can look forward to an exciting discus duel at BAUHAUS-galan on June 7. Vanessa Kamga will make her first Diamond League appearance in
Stockholm since 2019, where she will face the best discus thrower of modern
times: Valarie Sion (formerly Allman). Also confirmed for the event is world number two Jorinde van Klinken.

Vanessa Kamga had the best season of her career in 2025, peaking just in time for the World Championships in Tokyo. With her new Swedish record of 66.61, she secured a surprising fourth-place finish. She is currently ranked ninth in the world and fourth in Europe, which gives her strong medal chances at this summer’s European Championships.

Kamga will make her first Diamond League appearance at Stockholm Olympic Stadium since 2019. She competed at BAUHAUS-galan last year, but discus was not included in the Diamond League program at that time.

“I’m really looking forward to competing at the Stadium. It’s truly a highlight of the season to have such a big event on home soil. I’ll fill the stands with my friends and family and I’m excited to really let loose in the ring,” says Vanessa Kamga.

Valarie Sion is the best female discus thrower of modern times. With her personal best of 73.52 from last year, she has the longest throw since the 1980s, when the event was dominated by former East Germany. Sion is a two-time reigning Olympic champion and has won the last five Diamond League finals.

However, Stockholm Olympic Stadium has not been her strongest venue. The last time she competed at BAUHAUS-galan was in 2023, when she failed to record a single valid throw. The time before that was in 2019, when she finished sixth.

Jorinde van Klinken surpassed 70 meters already as a 21-year-old in 2021. However, it wasn’t until last year that she claimed her first global championship medal, winning silver at the World Championships in Tokyo behind Valarie Sion. The Dutch athlete is ranked second in the world and has previously recorded two runner-up finishes in Stockholm.

BAUHAUS-galan will take place on June 7 at Stockholm Olympic Stadium.
