Olympics first, then DN Galan
August is an athletics-packed month in Stockholm with the London Games followed by DN Galan which really gets started on the 15th of August when young children in Stockholm can try out athletics at Lilla DN Galan. The main event takes place two days later where the very best in the world and a host of Olympic gold medallists take the stage. DN Galan Youth follows; an event for those between the ages of 12 and 19 which also takes place in Stockholm Olympic Stadium.
"The event will really sparkle like a diamond and will be something to look forward to after the Olympic Games. We have already signed up several potential gold medallists from the London Games. Ulf Saletti, who is responsible for ensuring a star-studded field at DN-Galan, is in London now concluding the final agreements with athletes," says Anders Tallgren, Meeting Director of DN Galan.
Richards-Ross, Majewski, Adams and many more …
Among those already signed up for DN Galan is the newly-crowned 400m Olympic champion Sanya Richards-Ross and world champion from 2011 Amantle Montsho, shot put gold medallist Tomasz Majewski, Christian Cantwell, Valerie Adams, the entire world’s elite in female pole vault including world champion Fabiana Murer, double Olympic champion in javelin Andreas Thorkildsen and the best Swedish athletes including Moa Hjelmer in the 400m.
After DN Galan come the Swedish national athletics championships in Stockholm Olympic Stadium. The European 400m champion Moa Hjelmer ran in the Olympics and is now ready for DN Galan. Moa will also compete in Stockholm Stadium one week after DN Galan in the Swedish national athletics championships where the entire Swedish elite in athletics will be gathered including Olympians Michel Tornéus (long jump), Ebba Jungmark, Emma Green Tregaro (both high jump) and pole vaulter Alhaji Jeng.
Last champs for Carolina Klüft
Carolina Klüft will run her final national championships and then conclude her career with the national match again Finland in Göteborg on the 1st and 2nd of September. The national championships will also hopefully see a comeback from high jump legend and former Olympic champion Stefan Holm. August is quite simply a fantastic month for athletics with the possibility to see so many Olympic stars in Stochkolm on Friday the 17th of August.
