Two Olympic titles, five World Championships gold medals, three indoor world records, six of the best jumpers of this year. It is an impressive merit list that the triple jumpers are bringing to Stockholm’s IAAF Diamond League meeting next Thursday.
Christian Taylor has dominated the event in recent years. He won the Olympic crown in London 2012. Last summer he posted the second longest triple jump ever, 18.21, while winning the World Championships in Beijing. The US jumper has collected four 18-metre jumps and nine straight victories during the last twelve months
Teddy Tamgho took over Christian Olsson’s World Indoor Record in 2010. The four longest jumps indoors are by the Frenchman who, despite three major injuries, has managed to win two World and one European title. Nelson Evora claimed gold at the 2007 World Championships and 2008 Olympic Games. The triple jump is an unforgiving event. Several injuries have troubled the Portuguese through the years, but he was back on top in 2015. Evora was crowned European Champion indoors and secured the bronze medal in Beijing.
Omar Craddock finished just off the podium in that final. With three NCAA Championships and a World Junior Bronze medal the American continued to strengthen his reputation last winter with a fifth place at the World Indoors. He represents a new generation of jumpers who will provide a tough challenge to the proven masters of the discipline in Stockholm where six of this season’s best contenders will be present. Taylor and Craddock will be joined by fellow Americans, Chris Benard and Chris Carter as well as Troy Doris, who has changed nationality to Guyana, and Harold Correa of France.
