"I had no real plan tonight. I opened with 57 meters and wasn’t happy with that. Then I threw 66 meters and then came 68.77 which I’m very happy with" says Sandra Perkovic.
Second place was Russia’s Darya Pishchalnikova in 66.85 and third was German Nadine Müller in 65.05 meters. All three broke the previous 32 year-old stadium record.
Valerie over 20 meters
The newly-crowned Olympic champion in shot put, Valerie Adams, didn’t want to be outdone and won with a new stadium record of 20.26. A throw of that distance brought her a diamond to take back with her to her native New Zealand. "The goal today was to win. That’s always the goal. After all the drama of the last seven days, it was nice to come back and I’m really happy with the win."
Revenge for Hoffa
In the men’s shot put, veteran Reese Hoffa took the top spot on the podium. 21.24 was enough to defeat the Olympic champion Tomasz Majewski. "I’m very happy! I know that Tomasz is in great form and to beat the Olympic champion is always great," says Hoffa.
Finnish javelin thrower, Tero Pitkämäki proved that Finland is always a nation to be counted on when it comes to javelin. Pitkämäki won after an incredible 86.98 throw, the furthest he’s thrown for two years.
