Two of the world’s best pole vaulters, Americans K.C. Lightfoot and Chris Nilsen, are coming to Sweden to compete at the Täby Stavoppsgala on June 14. The gala, which is a qualifying competition for BAUHAUS-galan the following day on the men’s side, will thus have one of its highest-class starting fields ever.
KC Lightfoot is fourth in the world all-time with his personal best of 6.07. The American record holder is a crowd favorite with his explosive style and elegant jumping technique. His track record includes victory in the Diamond League in Oslo last year and a fourth place at the 2021 Olympics.
“I love city events – there’s a completely different energy when the audience is so close. Täby will be the perfect opportunity to feel the pulse of the competition,” says Lightfoot.
Chris Nilsen is one of the world’s most accomplished pole vaulters with Olympic silver, several World Championship medals and a personal best of 6.05 meters – a result that makes him seventh in the world of all time. In 2019, he even beat Mondo Duplantis to victory in the American college championships, and he has a total of four victories against the Swede.
“Pole vaulting in a city environment is always special. It’s intense, loud and really fun. I’m looking forward to competing in Täby and hoping for a strong result before the BAUHAUS gala,” says Nilsen.
In 2025, Nilsen has already cleared 6.01 meters and shown that he is in absolute top form. So in Täby he is ready to offer the audience a world-class show.
Täby Centrum is therefore in the focus of world athletics on June 14 when Wanda Diamond League visits the municipality with women’s pole vaulting. On the men’s side, the pole vault will be a qualifying competition where the winner will receive a place in Sunday’s BAUHAUS-galan at the Stockholm Olympic Stadium.
