World’s best high jumper confirmed for Stockholm BAUHAUS Athletics!

We are delighted to announce that the world’s best high jumper, Qatar’s Mutaz Essa Barshim, is confirmed for Stockholm BAUHAUS Athletics. Barshim is the current world leader who recently cleared 2.41m at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Eugene. Last year he achieved his best ever jump of 2.43m in Brussels so we can hope for a quality performance when he competes in the Stockholm Olympic Stadium on 30 July.

Barshim’s coach is Stanislav ”Stanley” Szcyrba, who was based in Sweden for many years and had great success at Malmö AI club, in particular with World and European indoor medallist, Linus Thörnblad. The Qatari star is enthusiastic about his Stockholm appearance.

– I really want to jump high on 30 July at Stockholm BAUHAUS Athletics and give the crowd something special. Through my coach, I have a close connection to Sweden and have spent a lot of time in your beautiful country. I love the historical Olympic Stadium and it will be great to compete there again.

Stockholm Olympic Stadium has witnessed some classic high jump competitions and there are many athletics fans who still get goosebumps when they think back to a summer evening in 1987 when Sweden’s Patrik Sjöberg cleared 2.42 for a new world record. Let’s hope the spectators on 30 July get the chance to experience another magical evening!
