The 2026 BAUHAUS-galan was an evening to remember at Stockholm Olympic Stadium. The crowd was treated to world-class performances, record-breaking races, sensational breakthroughs, and a long-awaited Swedish victory on home soil by Daniel Ståhl.
Perhaps the greatest performance of the evening came from Switzerland’s Audrey Werro. In a historically fast 800-meter race, she defeated Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson and crossed the finish line in a sensational 1:53.98. The time is the third-fastest of all time, a new Diamond League record, a new meet record, and the world-leading time this year.
The women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase also produced a record. Tunisia’s Marwa Bouzayani ran unchallenged to victory in 8:59.28, becoming the first woman to run the race in under nine minutes at the Stadium. Her winning time also set a new meet record.
In the shot put, world champion Jessica Schilder continued her impressive season. The Dutch athlete won with a throw of 20.89 meters, setting both a new meet record and a new arena record.
On the sprint track, the American stars lived up to expectations. Melissa Jefferson-Wooden won the women’s 100-meter dash in 10.84, while Kenny Bednarek took home the men’s 200-meter dash in 19.87.
17-year-old Cooper Lutkenhaus was the star of the evening, defeating a world-class field in the men’s 800 meters. The American won with a time of 1:42.70, ahead of former world champion Marco Arop.
In the men’s 1,500 meters, Yared Nuguse demonstrated his championship experience as he held off Australia’s Cameron Myers in a high-caliber race. Swedish record holder Andreas Almgren and 10,000-meter world champion Jimmy Gressier, on the other hand, struggled to compete after switching to the shorter distance.
In the pole vault, an impressive winning streak came to an end. World record holder Armand “Mondo” Duplantis lost for the first time since 2023 when Australia’s Kurtis Marschall claimed the biggest victory of his career. Duplantis finished second in front of his home crowd.
Instead, the highlight of the evening for Sweden came in the discus throw. Daniel Ståhl secured his first home victory in five years with a throw of 69.60 meters. In one of the season’s strongest fields, he held off both Matthew Denny and Kristjan Čeh.
Other victories that evening went to Soufiane El Bakkali in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, Birke Haylom in the women’s 1,500 meters, Alison dos Santos in the men’s 400-meter hurdles, and Valarie Sion in the women’s discus throw, among others.
