The Dickson Trophy has its roots in the old court stable master James Fr. Dickson’s great interest in running and especially the middle distance of 1609 meters, that is, one English mile, and was established in 1895. The race has been held during many athletics galas and mainly concerned 1500 meters or the English mile and since 1967 the prize has been awarded at the DN Galan. These races have often held a high international class with a lot of prestige and struggle. The Dickson Trophy has been won by legends such as Filbert Bayi, John Walker, Sebastian Coe and Said Aouita. The winner has his name engraved in the large silver trophy which is a central part of the international middle distance history.
