Gressier to take on Almgren in 1500m duel at the BAUHAUS-galan

Reigning world 10,000m champion Jimmy Gressier has been confirmed for the BAUHAUS-galan, where he will make his Diamond League debut on Swedish soil. The French star is set to line up against home favourite Andreas Almgren in a highly anticipated 1500m clash in Stockholm. Yared Nuguse, Niels Laros and Narve Gilje Nordås have also been confirmed for what promises to be one of the standout middle-distance races of the meeting.

“I’m excited at the prospect of lining up alongside a world-class champion like Almgren, pushing the pace and chasing a sub-3:30 performance over 1500m in Stockholm,” said Gressier.

Gressier and Almgren delivered one of the defining moments of the 2025 athletics season from a Swedish perspective when they battled for gold in the 10,000m final at the World Championships in Tokyo. Gressier emerged on top to secure the first global title of his career, while Almgren claimed Sweden’s first-ever World Championships medal in long-distance running.

Now the pair will renew their rivalry at the BAUHAUS-galan on 7th of June, this time over 1500m. It will be Gressier’s first Diamond League appearance at Stockholm Olympic Stadium. He previously competed at the BAUHAUS-galan in 2023, but not in an official Diamond League discipline. Almgren brings a personal best of 3:32.00 into the race, while Gressier has run 3:32.71, setting the stage for a closely fought contest with both athletes aiming to break the 3:30 barrier.

The men’s 1500m field is packed with global quality. Olympic bronze medallist Yared Nuguse, Dutch rising star Niels Laros — the 2025 Diamond League champion and currently ranked No. 4 in the world — and world bronze medallist Narve Gilje Nordås are all confirmed. All three have personal bests inside 3:30.

Another great talent ready to start is Australian Cameron Myers, who in April became the first to go under 3:30 on Australian soil. Myers thus currently holds the world best of 3:29.85.

World No. 2 Phanuel Koech and World No. 3 Azeddine Habz have also been added to the line-up, giving the race outstanding depth and raising the prospect of a historically fast 1500m at the Stockholm Olympic Stadium, with multiple athletes capable of dipping under 3:30 in the same race.

BAUHAUS-galan takes place on 7 June at Stockholm Olympic Stadium.
