In-form world champion Jessica Schilder set both a new meeting record and a new stadium record as she won the women’s shot put at the BAUHAUS-galan in Stockholm on Sunday 7 June with a booming throw of 20.89m.
It was her second Diamond League victory of the season and came just 20cm short of the world lead 21.09m she set last month in Keqiao. Her mark remains the longest throw in the event since 2012.
Her fifth-round effort surpassed the 15-year-old Olympic Stadium record previously held by two-time Olympic and four-time world champion Valerie Adams by 32cm.
World indoor champion Chase Jackson of the USA finished second with a second-round throw of 19.91m, while two-time world indoor champion Sarah Mitton of Canada was third with 19.89m.
Sion dominated the discus and stroke her 22nd Diamond League-win
Double Olympic champion Valarie Sion (formerly Allman) claimed her 22nd Diamond League victory after a superior performance in the women’s discus throw.
It was her first-ever victory in Stockholm and erased the memory of a nightmare outing in the Swedish capital in 2023. Three years ago, the American failed to record a valid mark at the Olympic Stadium, but the reigning world champion returned in brilliant and consistent form, producing three throws beyond 68 metres.
Her best came in the second round with 68.60m.
“I feel like this would have been an epic place to throw 70m and I hope to be able to come back in the future and do that,” said Sion. “Last time I was here it poured rain and it was horrendous conditions, and the time before, it was my first time on the circuit – I was so nervous and I finished in sixth place.

“It has been really beautiful to be back and to have that sense of pride of wanting to do my event well.”
Just as she had at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo last year, Jorinde van Klinken of the Netherlands finished second to Allman, her best effort a fourth-round throw of 66.57m.
The USA’s 2023 world champion Laulauga Tausaga placed third with 65.89m.
