World lead in 5000m – Third DN Galan 200m victory for Allyson Felix
12.832 spectators attended the 48th edition of DN Galan at Stockholm Olympic Stadium, which began with sunshine and 19 degrees celcius. The temperature then dropped but that did not prevent a new world lead of 12:54.83 in the 5000m by Ethiopia’s Muktar Edris. Michel Tornéus was the most successful Swede with 8.03m and a third place in the long jump while 200m winner, Allyson Felix and young Swedish sprinter, Irene Ekelund were the favourites with the autograph hunters.

World Junior medallist Almgren to face the best in the world at DN Galan
Newly crowned Swedish 800m champion, Andreas Almgren, who was a surprise bronze medal winner last week at the World Junior Championships in Eugene, USA, is confirmed to run at DN Galan on 21 August. The opposition will be as tough as they come – this year’s two fastest over 800m, Nijel Amos from Botswana and France’s Pierre-Ambroise Bosse will be in Stockholm to battle for victory at the 11th Diamond League meeting of the 2014 circuit.
18 newly crowned continental Champions will compete at DN Galan on Thursday
Ten European Champions from last week’s competition in Zürich will compete in Stockholm Olympic Stadium on Thursday 21 August – five men and five women, including Sweden’s Meraf Bahta who won the 5000m. Probably the biggest name is the world pole vault record holder, Renaud Lavillenie from France.
International highlights for DN Galan
Year after year Stockholm’s DN Galan produces one of the world’s premier athletics events and this year’s edition promises to be no exception. In addition to champions such as Renaud Lavillenie and Allyson Felix who have already been announced, events will be starstudded with the world’s best. In addition many events will be spiced with grudge matches following the recent European Championships in Zurich.
Meraf Bahta – European 5000m Champion! To meet Aregawi and Hassan at DN Galan
Meraf Bahta didn’t put a foot wrong in the slow European 5000m final in Zurich. She took the lead for the last kilometre, put more pressure on with 250m to go and was able to respond when her main rival Sifan Hassan from Holland crept up alongside her 80m from the finish.
Superstar Felix confirmed for DN Galan
One of track and field’s true superstars, American sprinter, Allyson Felix, is coming to DN Galan on 21 August. She joins fellow global names such as Renaud Lavillenie and Blanka Vlasic at the world-class athletics meeting.
Global high jump stars Blanka Vlasic and Emma Green to compete at DN Galan
Two of athletics most popular stars, Blanka Vlasic and Emma Green, will compete in the high jump at DN Galan on 21 August. Blanka is back at elite level after a long struggle with injuries.
