Olympic Champion against world number one in Long Jump at the Stockholm Olympic Stadium
The Olympic fever continues to spread to BAUHAUS-galan on June 15. There will be stars in the sand with Olympic champion Tara Davis-Woodhall together with world number one Malaika Mihambo. This will be the first time that Davis-Woodhall competes on Swedish soil.
On June 15, the long jump pit at the Stockholm Olympic Stadium will be transformed into the scene of a spectacular duel in long jump. American Olympic gold medalist Tara Davis-Woodhall, one of the world’s most charismatic and explosive athletes, has given the go to compete. She will enter BAUHAUS-galan to take on world number one Malaika Mihambo, from Germany, who took the Olympic silver medal behind Davis-Woodhall.
The Olympic gold medalist comments on her participation in Stockholm.
– I am looking forward to coming to Sweden to compete at BAUHAUS-galan. It is an
honor to compete in front of the fantastic audience in Stockholm. I hope to inspire young girls to take up athletics – not only to chase dreams and goals but also as a fun way to be physically active and healthy, says Tara Davis-Woodhall.
The world number one in long jump counters:
– I always give my all in every competition – and that is the goal in Stockholm as well. I love Stockholm – both the atmosphere and the enthusiastic crowd. I am sure that their support will help me achieve my goals, says Malaika Mihambo.
The long jump profile that triggers the crowd
Tara Davis-Woodhall is not only an exceptional athlete but also a master at engaging the crowd and creating an electric atmosphere during competitions. During the long jumps at the Olympics in Paris 2024, she became known for her ability to get the entire Stade de France boiling with enthusiasm. There will be a good momentum for the crowd on ”her” side of the Stadium on June 15.
– These are exactly the type of athletics profiles and duels we want to offer the crowd. It’s almost as if we’re wondering if the long jump pit will be enough this year. Tara has an energy that is contagious even before the first step of the approach. She has established herself as one of the most interesting profiles in athletics. Her power, speed and showmanship have made her a crowd favorite all over the world and now it’s
Stockholm’s turn to experience her magic, says Meeting Director, Jan Kowalski.
In addition, the Olympic bronze medalist, the American Jasmine Moore, and Europe’s great hope for the future – the world number three from Italy – Larissa Iapichino will be at the start. Iapichino – who won the last long jump competition at BAUHAUS-galan in 2023, three cm ahead of the eight year older Mihambo.
Larissa Iapichino is 22 years old and the daughter of long jump legend Fiona May. Europe’s new long jump star has athletics in her blood. She already has an impressive personal best of 6.97 meters. She jumps with a technique that promises well for the future and has emerged as a hot candidate for future championship titles.
