World-class 800m field confirmed for BAUHAUS-galan

Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Djamel Sedjati, Marco Arop, Jake Wightman, and Peter Bol will all line up in the 800 meters at BAUHAUS-galan. Previously, the highly promising talent Cooper Lutkenhaus was also confirmed for the race. This sets the stage for a truly star-studded showdown for the Swedish crowd at Stockholm Olympic Stadium.

The field is headlined by Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi, the reigning Olympic champion, world champion, and one of the fastest 800-meter runners of all time.

Wanyonyi has quickly established himself as the dominant star in the 800 meters. He won Olympic gold in Paris 2024, claimed World Championship gold in Tokyo 2025, and holds a personal best of 1:41.11—a time that places him among the all-time greats in the event. When he last competed at the BAUHAUS-galan in 2025, he won in 1:41.95, delivering one of the meet’s standout international performances.

The competition will also be of the highest global standard. Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati returns to Stockholm after several strong performances at the BAUHAUS-galan. In 2024, he won the 800 meters in 1:43.23, and in 2025 he finished second behind Wanyonyi in 1:42.27. Internationally, Sedjati has won Olympic bronze in Paris 2024 and World Championship silver, and is one of the few runners capable of seriously challenging Wanyonyi in a fast race.

Canada’s Marco Arop is also confirmed for the start. Arop became world champion in Budapest 2023, took Olympic silver in Paris 2024, and has repeatedly shown that he thrives in major championship races. He has also performed strongly at the BAUHAUS-galan before, including second-place finishes in the 800 meters in both 2020 and 2021.

Great Britain’s Jake Wightman adds further championship pedigree to the field. Wightman is the 1500-meter world champion from Eugene 2022 and also has strong credentials in the 800 meters, including European Championship silver from Munich 2022. He also has a clear connection to Stockholm: in 2018 he set a Scottish record in the 1000 meters at the BAUHAUS-galan, and in 2024 he returned to Stockholm Stadium for the 800-meter race won by Sedjati.

Australia’s Peter Bol further deepens the field. Bol has been one of Australia’s leading middle-distance runners for several years and has fond memories of Stockholm. In 2018, he won the 800 meters at the BAUHAUS-galan in 1:44.56, ahead of compatriot Joseph Deng, in a race that marked his international breakthrough.

Previously confirmed for the start is also Cooper Lutkenhaus, who has been highlighted as one of the world’s most exciting young 800-meter talents.
